Industry Regulation

The Commerce Commission enforces regulatory regimes for the following sectors:

Dairy

The Commission’s roles and responsibilities for the dairy industry are set out under the Dairy Industry Restructuring Act 2001.

Telecommunications

The Commission’s roles and responsibilities for the telecommunications sector are set out under the Telecommunications Act 2001.

Electricity

The Commission’s roles and responsibilities for the electricity industry are set out under the Electricity Industry Reform Act 1998 and under Part 4A of the Commerce Act 1986 until 1 April 2009 when Part 4A is replaced with the provisions in subpart 9 of Part 4.

Gas

The Commission’s roles and responsibilities for gas pipeline services are set out under Part 4 of the Commerce Act 1986.

 Airports

The Commission’s roles and responsibilities for specified airport services are set out under Part 4 of the Commerce Act 1986.

The Commerce Amendment Act 2008 has introduced significant changes to the regulatory frameworks under the Commerce Act 1986 (the Act). Links to information regarding these changes are provided below:
