Unsafe goods notices

Importing, supplying or advertising goods declared by the Minister of Consumer Affairs to be unsafe is an offence under the Fair Trading Act.

The Minister may declare any goods unsafe where it appears they may cause injury. Information about unsafe goods notices can be found on the Consumer Protection website.

There are currently seven unsafe goods notices, six of which are permanent:

  • Pistol Crossbows (permanent)
  • Candles and Candlewicks (permanent)
  • Hot Water Bottles
  • Lead in Children’s Toys) (permanent)
  • Chainsaws Without a Chain Brake (permanent)
  • Small High Powered Magnets (permanent)
  • Multipurpose Ladders (permanent)
