The Fair Trading Amendment Act (FTAA) has only been law for four months, and many of the changes are still to come into effect, but the biggest consumer law reform in decades is already bearing fruit.

The Consumer Law Reform Bill had Committee of the Whole House stage on Tuesday 3 December and is now awaiting its third reading in parliament. We continue to work to ensure we have the systems, processes and policies necessary to provide guidance and enforce the changes anticipated under the new law.

The Commission intends to be ready to fully implement the changes to the Fair Trading Act on the date they come into force, and expects businesses to be ready too.
