A good CV will include the dates of your work experience, details of previous roles and an outline of your tasks and achievements. Your covering letter is a key opportunity for you to explain why you should be considered for the role and to highlight your relevant skills and experience.
Once you have completed your application, you will receive a confirmation email.
After the application closing date we run a shortlisting process. We match applicants to the key competencies and person specifications for the role, which can take up to 2 weeks.
If you have not received an update within 2 weeks of the application closing date, please email the contact person of the role that you have applied for – their email is provided on the vacancy advertisement.
Competency based interview
A competency based interview is where the interview panel will be looking for evidence that your behaviours and experience match the key attributes required for the role. You should be able to provide examples of situations, actions you took, and end results that highlight your skills. It's also useful for you to explain what you may have learnt from the experience and how you have applied that learning in other situations. For some roles we may require the completion of a work sample as part of the interview.
Assessment and tests
All preferred candidates undergo skills based or ability assessments as part of the recruitment process.
Ability tests measure your ability to critically analyse words (verbal reasoning) and numbers (numerical reasoning). You may also be required to complete a work sample which allows us to assess specific skills related to the role you are applying for.
Preferred candidates will also complete an Occupational Personality Questionnaire (OPQ). As everyone has different strengths and preferences, there are no right or wrong answers for the OPQ – it is simply a way for us to see your natural strengths and work-based preferences.
Most assessments are designed to be completed online, however if you need to complete it at our offices, we will let you now. Feedback from testing is provided to candidates.
Reference and background checks
If you are our preferred candidate, we will want to contact at least two referees that you have reported to in your previous two to three roles. Once we have consulted your referees we will discuss the outcome with you.
The Commission will also conduct background checks which include academic qualifications, criminal convictions and also confirmation of citizenship or residency and work permit status.
