Electricity Distribution Businesses (EDBs) must publicly disclose AMPs, which provide a forward-looking view of how EDBs intend to invest in, maintain and operate their networks for consumers. The AMPs include forecasts of future expenditure over a 10-year horizon. Further, the EDBs' AMPs are useful for understanding EDBs approaches to significant issues such as resilience and climate change.

We contracted external expert support in undertaking our review of the 2023 AMPs. Engineering consultancy Innovative Assets Engineering (IAEngg) completed a review in two stages:

  • Stage 1: an assessment of forecasting and planning methodologies contained in EDBs’ 2023 AMPs – we published the report in February 2024; and
  • Stage 2: a review of the current AMP disclosure requirements, and a separate resilience planning assessment – we published the reports in April 2024.

We have now completed our targeted review of the 2023 AMPs of EDBs.

What’s next?

We will consider the findings and conclusions arising from the review of 2023 AMPs in any future work programme on refining information disclosure requirements for EDBs. We plan to update stakeholders on next steps in the third quarter of 2024.
