The Act allows us to specify points of interconnection (POIs) which are places in wholesale networks where responsibility for fibre services is handed over from a fibre provider to other commercial service providers.
Identifying POIs is important because they:
define key boundary points of regulated fibre networks
allow us to determine areas where copper lines can be deregulated.
We intend to prescribe by public notice the regulated fibre providers' POIs.
The Act requires our first notice to include the POIs based on those that apply as at the close of 31 December 2019 under the Ultrafast Broadband Initiative. We may also prescribe additional POIs.
