Under Part 4 of the Commerce Act, Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch International Airports are subject to information disclosure regulation for certain key airport facilities and services to get people and cargo on and off aeroplanes, including take-off and landing of aircraft. These services include aircraft, freight, airfield and passenger terminal activities. The regulation does not cover other services such as car parks and retail facilities. We do not regulate the prices the airports charge. These airports may set prices as they see fit but must consult with substantial customers such as airlines, on charges and any major capital expenditure plans.

Wellington Airport set prices for the 5-year period beginning on 1 April 2019 in April 2021, providing the Commission with the required information disclosures in June 2021. The disclosure is the fourth of its kind for Wellington Airport since information disclosure requirements were set under the Act.

Wellington Airport was due to set prices in April 2019 but has had an extended pricing consultation period for PSE4, receiving exemptions for the delay first due to long-term capital expenditure planning and subsequently the COVID-19 pandemic.

We have now completed our review of Wellington International Airport’s pricing for its PSE4 period (1 April 2019 to 31 March 2024).

We completed our review of Wellington International Airport's pricing for its previous pricing period of 1 June 2014 to 31 March 2019 (price setting event 3 (PSE3) period) in 2015.

We completed our review of both Auckland and Christchurch International Airport's pricing for the period 1 July 2017 to 30 June 2022 (PSE3) on 1 November 2018.
