We will publish our draft report in the market study into competition in personal banking services on 21 March 2024.
Market study stakeholder update (February 2024)
This follows several months of engagement with the sector, interested parties and consumers to better understand how competition is working in the sector.
We are grateful to those who have taken the time to provide information and perspectives to us – whether in person or as part of the submissions process. We know that it is time consuming, but the information and perspectives shared with us have been invaluable, helping to build a picture of the market and the competition dynamics at play.
We would like also to acknowledge all those who gave time to the consumer survey carried out on our behalf by Verian, or who contributed views through the web form, and who attended the wānanga hosted in October last year or the workshop with Fintech NZ members in November.
We have today published the summaries from the wānanga and Fintech NZ workshop, together with public versions of a small number of additional cross-submissions received since the last round.
Once our draft report has been published for consultation, there will be plenty of time to provide comment on it, both formally and informally. If you sign up to receive updates about the study, you will receive a link to the draft report once it has been published, along with details of how you can provide your feedback on it.
Once published, there will be a period of 4 weeks, to 18 April 2024, for written submissions on the draft report. We will be hosting a consultation conference in Auckland and online in the week of 13 May. Following that there will be a period to the end of May for post-conference cross-submissions and final submissions. These dates have been added to the project timeline on the website landing page.
We are required to publish our final report to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs by 20 August 2024.
Further details around arrangements for release of our draft report will follow.
If there is anything you would like to share with us in the meantime, you can email marketstudies@comcom.govt.nz and a member of the team will come back to you.
