Aurora Energy independent review of the state of the network

Aurora Energy has commissioned an independent review to determine the state of its electricity network. The review is intended to establish the state of the network with a focus on critical assets at risk of failure. This will allow interested stakeholders to better assess the appropriateness of the planned interventions and investments Aurora proposes to make.
Aurora Energy is New Zealand’s seventh largest electricity network by customer connections supplying electricity to more than 88,000 homes, farms and businesses in Dunedin, Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes. It currently faces a number of challenges in operating an ageing network, and in order to address this it has a significant renewal programme planned.
Aurora has engaged an independent consultant WSP to conduct the review which includes both a desktop review of existing asset data and an assessment of assets through sample inspections and review.
The Commission has been actively involved throughout the state of the network review including agreeing the terms of reference, approving the choice of consultant, review of interim and draft reports and ensuring the independence of this work.
