The Commerce Commission timetable for considering Ravensdown Corporation Ltd's application for authorisation of its bid to acquire up to 100 percent of the shares of SouthFert Co-operative Ltd is:
May 8
Release draft determination giving the Commission's preliminary view
by May 24
Interested parties and Ravensdown to make submissions on the draft determination
June 5-6
Conference to be held if the Commission decides it is necessary
by June 20
Release final decision
The Commerce Act prohibits business acquisitions which result in dominance being acquired or strengthened in any market. However, it allows them to be authorised if the Commission is satisfied that public benefits from the acquisition outweigh detriments to competition.
It sets a 60 working day deadline for the Commission to consider an application.
