The Commerce Commission has granted clearance for Christchurch International Airport Limited to acquire Craddocks Car Storage. Craddocks Car Storage operates a large car parking facility on airport land about a kilometre from the terminal buildings. Its customers are taken to, and picked up from, the airport terminal.

The Commission considered the impact of the acquisition on the market for long-term parking at or near Christchurch International Airport.

Commerce Commission Chair Dr Mark Berry said the Commission is satisfied that the proposed acquisition will not have, or would not be likely to have, the effect of substantially lessening competition in that market. While the acquisition would lead to a high level of aggregation in the long-term parking market, Christchurch International Airport Limited would be constrained by the presence of existing competitors, potential entry into the market, and the existence of other transport options to and from the airport.

A public version of the written reasons for the decision will be available as soon as practicable on the Commission's website at www.comcom.govt.nz/clearances-register
