Issued 30 March 2004

The Commerce Commission has granted a clearance to Niro A/S, to acquire 100 percent of the shares of Colby Systems Limited from Siemens Dematic AG.

The acquisition is part of the global acquisition by Niro of the Colby Powder Systems group from Siemens Dematic AG.

In New Zealand, Niro is represented by Niro (NZ) Limited and Avalon Engineering Limited, which operates under the brand name AVAPAC.

Chair Paula Rebstock said that the Commission was satisfied that the proposed acquisition would not have, nor would be likely to have, the effect of substantially lessening competition in the markets for:

  • the national supply of systems for packing powder at a high output rate (above 12 to 14 tonnes an hour) into industrial sized bags (10-25kg); and
  • the national supply of systems for packing powder at a high output rate (below 12 to 14 tonnes an hour) into industrial sized bags (10-25kg).

A public version of the decision will shortly be available on the Commission's website www.comcom.govt.nz under the Clearances Register.
