The Commerce Commission has cleared Sanford Limited to acquire Simunovich Fisheries Limited scampi quota.

Commission Chair Paula Rebstock said that the Commission was satisfied that the proposed acquisition would not have, or would not be likely to have, the effect of substantially lessening competition in the markets for:

  • the catch and domestic wholesale supply of scampi in New Zealand; and
  • rights to harvest scampi in New Zealand waters for export.

Sanford is an Auckland-based publicly listed company. Simunovich is an Auckland-based private company which is exiting the fishing industry.

A public version of the Commission's decision will shortly be available on the Commission's website.
