The Commerce Commission conference to gather information about the Telephone Number Administration Deed will be held in Wellington on Tuesday April 20 to Thursday 22.

While only interested parties may participate in the conference, the public may observe and the media may report the proceedings.

The parties who have signed the Deed to date, Newcall Communications Limited, Teamtalk Limited, Telecom New Zealand Limited, Telstra New Zealand Limited and Vodafone New Zealand Limited, had applied for authorisation of the Deed.

The conference is an opportunity for the applicants and interested parties to provide further information and for the Commission to ask questions. It is not an adversarial process. Participants will not question or cross-examine each other.

If the Commission accepts a request that some information be presented confidentially, then the room will be cleared of all people except the presenters and other parties' experts and legal counsel who have signed confidentiality orders.

On March 22 the Commission issued a draft determination stating that, on the information currently available, the benefits from the Deed are likely to outweigh its detriments and the Commission would authorise the Deed.

Interested parties have made submissions on the draft determination, the Commission has circulated the submissions to all interested parties and they can now provide further information in light of the Commission's and each others' views.

The Commission will make its final decision by May 10.
