The Commerce Commission has received an application from James Hardie New Zealand Limited for clearance to acquire all the assets of Long International Limited's building panel manufacturing and distribution business in New Zealand.

James Hardie and Long International both distribute and manufacture polystyrene, architectural cladding and insulated panels.

The Commission's Commerce Act Manager, Geoff Thorn, said that the Commission expects to make its decision by December 8.

The Act prohibits business acquisitions that result in dominance being acquired or strengthened in any market. Parties can apply for a clearance, which the Commission will give if it is satisfied that dominance is not acquired or strengthened.
