The Commerce Commission announced today that it will examine the reasons for the lack of new entry into the mobile services market as a prelude to deciding whether or not to commence an investigation into possible changes to the regulatory framework.

The Commission will shortly begin gathering information from the industry and expects to complete this initial phase within a few months. Should the Commission then decide to launch a formal investigation, a report will be provided to the Minister of Communications on completion of the investigation, with recommendations on any proposed regulatory changes.
