The Commerce Commission today registered an application from Natural Gas Corporation Holdings Limited (NGC) to acquire TransAlta New Zealand Limited.
The Commission's Commerce Act Manager Geoff Thorn said that the two companies are large players in the energy sector and are engaged in a wide range of markets. Matters on which the Commission will be focusing include national electricity retailing, and gas distribution and retailing in the Hutt Valley.
The Commission would grant a clearance if it is satisfied that the proposed acquisition would not result in dominance being acquired or strengthened in any market.
