The Commerce Commission will hold a three day conference from tomorrow on its draft determination on mobile termination rates. The Commission found in the draft that a regulated reduction in wholesale mobile termination rates was likely to lead to increased competition in the retail market for tolls and fixed-to-mobile calls.

The conference will be held from Wednesday 23 to Friday 25 February in the ground floor conference room of the NGC Building, 44-52 The Terrace, Wellington.

In October, the Commission released its draft determination, recommending regulation of mobile termination rates by allowing providers of fixed-to-mobile services to seek access to the mobile termination service.

Interested parties were asked to make submissions on the draft determination. The conference is a process where parties can present their case orally, and the Commission can ask questions based on the parties' submissions.

The Commission will release its final determination on the mobile termination as soon as practicable after the conference.
