The Commerce Commission today approved an updated wholesale price of $27.76 per month (excl GST) for the regulated unbundled bitstream access service supplied by Telecom to ihug and CallPlus. This price update is the first of the regular three-monthly adjustments since the determination was released in June and applies from 22 September 2006.

The June determination set a price of $28.04 per month for the service. It also included a mechanism for adjusting the price every three months or whenever a Telecom retail broadband plan price change occurs. The adjustment mechanism updates the wholesale price in line with changes in Telecom's retail prices and demand for its comparable retail plans.

Bitstream access is a form of broadband transmission capacity on Telecom's copper local access network that, in conjunction with their national and international transmission capability and ISP services, enables ihug and CallPlus to offer their own retail broadband services.
