The transmission network supplying Bombay and Wiri substations is ageing and requires refurbishment. This network includes the transmission lines between Bombay and Otahuhu substations and Bombay and Meremere substations.
Electricity demand in the region is increasing so the network also requires reinforcement.
Transpower is planning a major capex proposal to invest and maintain a reliable electricity supply in the Bombay-Otahuhu region.
On 18 January 2019, Transpower and the Commission agreed to a consultation programme, approval timeframe and approach to considering non-Transpower solutions. As Transpower develops the project, Transpower and the Commission will review the timeframes as necessary.
